Default Mersin flag burning incident....

(Quote)....

Thirty-two people have now been arrested over the incident of burning the Turkish flag, during 'Nevruz' celebrations, last weekend in Mersin, Amongst the thirty-two detainees are two children aged 12 and 14 years, who were caught on video dragging the flag through the streets before burning it.

Does anyone know what the actual penalty is for this?

I know it is deeply frowned upon, moreso in Turkey than the UK.

I don't know for sure. I do know that it's a lot of attention only about a flag.
Anyway they probably get some years in jail for it, because it's probable seen as an act of terrorism.

Human Rights Association (IHD) President Yusuf Alataş said on Friday that when one looked at the exaggerated reaction, one started to think that those who didn't want social peace planned the flag-dragging incident.

He said: "We are watching the national reaction against something done by a few children between the ages of 12 and 17 with disbelief."

Actually, the story is different. I think that all of you know about PKK, the terrorist group. They are trying to manuplate Nevruz day and doing some illegal acts.

What is Nevruz? It is a day to enter to spring, basically. But they are using even children for their illegal acts.

I dont think the children will be penalized for that.

Well I agree - but please refer to the forum rules and post in English if you also want to post in Turkish fine.

Basically the post says: Whoever burns the Turkish flag should have their fingers cut off.
