Default The "Save Me" Animal Shelter

Haven"t been on for some time so I am a bit "rusty" - just lost this message once !

We are hoping to set up an animal shelter for stray dogs and cats and I have two e-mails giving information regarding this. Actually one is a petition that we have been requested to send, showing all the nationalities in Kusadasi, Davutlar and Guzelcamli, who are concerned about the welfare of these homeless creatures. The other one gives an insight into what can be done with the help of the community. Please read these and if interested you will be most welcome at a meeting in the near future.

Thanks to Carmella for your Good Wishes

Email one:

The “Save Me” Animal Shelter

A Piece of land for the building of an animal shelter between Davutlar
and Guzelcamli has been requested (away from residential dwellings)
for the housing of stray dogs and cats. It is proposed the animals be
cared for 24 / 7 by council employees. The home should be open for all
strays and pets whose owners are leaving the area and will open to visitors
and adoption will be allowed to good homes, being returned after the
summer season.

A letter of request is being sent to Aydin and forwarded to Ankara for
a final agreement. The petition is required to show the wide community
of all nationalities who are in favour of this request. We would like to
work with Kusadasi animal shelter and all together we can give these
unfortunate creatures a good life.

Please sign the petition, under no obligation, but a few hours of your
time, even once a month, will be most appreciated. A meeting will be
held in the Beach and Cafe Bar, Paradise Beach, Davutlar, proprietor
Gengis Khan, on Thursday,27th September, when questions, advice, ideas, etc.
can be discussed.

Many thanks in advance for your interest in this matter.

İ'm a big animal lover and I think it's a really great idea Haggis. I hope your plans work out, as something like this is really needed.

Earlier I was down on the street outside Umıt's house feeding all the stray cats (who ate like they haven't had a good meal in ages ) I now have a load of kittens following me around, it's sooo cute.

Great idea. The way these animals my heart really goes out to them. Is there going to be a policy of neutering strays as every ***** I see is either nursing or pregnant thus adding to the problem.

Should have said the way these animals are treated......

Many thanks Toby for your input.
I don"t know where you home is but please keep in touch with this project. Even the fact you are concerned is a good point and any ideas you may come up can only be helpful. I am a novice at this so I need all the help I can get.
Di.

Carmella, I can only repeat Thanks, I am new to this and you have helped already to start me on the right road. Please would you like to attend the meeting, which is a get together really to discuss the best ways to go about all this ? Hopefully lots of people will turn up and we can move forward before the winter sets in. The sooner the better for these poor creatures.
Di

Goodmorning,

Thanks to all of you who have already sent replies.
At the meeting on 27th Sept. it is hoped that most issues will be covered
on this project, and providing Ankara gives us the go-ahead, we can get started before the winter. Insallah

It is hoped at the meeting that we can appoint a panel of six people, two from Davutlar, two from Guzelcamli and two from Kusadasi, who can supervise the overall running of the scheme and visit the kennels at least once a month.

However, maybe I can fill in some of the details of this project.

A vet will be on hand to neutor, spey and also care for any illness which could occurr

The hotels and restaurants are being approached for "left overs" and meat will be purchased with money collected from charity nights etc. etc. to ensure a healthy diet.

If, and we feel pretty confident, this project goes ahead, we will be asking for volunteers to design and build "dog kennels in wood (hopefully supplied by the belediye). and in a separate little part of the area some premises for "cat beds". Please do not throw any old blankets away, as these will be needed.

An ex-mayor, who has been most helpful, will be at the meeting and the Mayors will be invited.

Hope this gives an insight into The "save-me" animal Shelter.

Thank you in advance for any help given.
Di (haggis)

Brilliant idea Haggis!

Make sure you rally round the expat community.

An ad in the Ege Eye would be a good move.

There´s a member here who took a stray dog with her back home.
Beautiful dog btw!
