having been reading various articles and threads about hassles when picking up friends and relatives from turkish airports - seems things are on the up...whilst so far I have had no issues picking up relatives, it seems that other ex-pats have....
Posted on Friday, October 12 @ 12:50:06 CDT by editor ![]() THE Turkish Constitution provides freedom of travel and settlement. Freedom of travel means that people can freely travel in Turkey. Therefore, there should be no restrictions for drivers to carry their immediate family or anyone else in their cars. I received a letter from a reader and what I read really upset me. The letter reads: “People who were collecting friends and family from the airport were being stopped and questioned. This happened again this week at Bodrum airport; my neighbor was stopped in the airport area and was told he was not allowed to travel more than 100 km outside the area of his residence in his MA registered cargo car. “Also no one was allowed to sit in the back of the vehicle. The so-called official informed the driver that the vehicle was insured to carry five people in total. The official then told the passengers to get out of the vehicle and that they must make their way home by taxi. The passenger then said he was sorry but would make his way by car. “The official then told him he would not be allowed to travel in Turkey by any other means and he must get into the taxi. He then informed the driver he would be sent to court and would be deported ASAP...” Before going any deeper, I have to underline that the illegal action of a single “so-called” official should not sour the whole community. On the other hand, forcing somebody to get into a taxi cannot be explained from any other angle except the person forcing the passengers into the taxi benefiting from the situation. Maybe this so-called official was paid a commission on taxi rates. It’s disgusting, isn’t it? more: http://www.voicesnewspaper.com/modul...rder=0&thold=0 |

I know that there can be problems as airports have their own licenced taxis,
I believe if you are making regular trips to the airport there maybe problems, I think a licencing system operates for tour operators/estate agents . |
