Skating Rink to be built in Izmir
A skating hall built to Olympic standards over some 245 acres of land in the Bornova district will be established by the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality.
The Bornova Skating Hall and Recreation Area will host ice hockey games and have a capacity of 2,250 people. The project will start in the first months of 2008. Activities at the site will include culture, art, sports, entertainment and refreshment. There will be one skating hall, three ballparks, two tennis courts and one mini football field in the project. A multi-purpose amphitheater with a capacity of 5,000 people, a 1,500-square-meter artificial pond, two wooden bridges, a café with a 200-person capacity and a car park for approximately 700 vehicles will be built. There are also plans for two childcare facilities, a 1.5-kilometer bicycle track, walking paths, viewing platforms and refreshment areas.
