Exclamation Rumour: Emirates to add 2nd Turkish destination

Dubai based Emirates who already operates a daily to Istanbul is rumoured to be expanding itīs presence in Turkey by adding another city to itīs network. I was reading this on another forum. So far no details are given but I think it will be a toss between Ankara, Antalya or Izmir.

This is good news for our Kiwi and Ozzie friends who will have more choice and hopefully better 1 stop connections via Dubai.

According to my source at Emirates its more likely to be Izmir which will be great for so many. At the end of such a long journey the last straw is often the haul of tired and grumpy self plus luggage across to the domestic terminal, jamming stuff through the xray machines and that first breathstopping gulp of second hand smoke, followed by the delightful rip of price of a small bottle of water (6 lira at one airport retailer who got told off in no uncertain terms - I did pay 2 though!). Followed by the haul up to the plane and then the fight for space if needed in the overhead lockers. One less stop would be great.

Great news Kay for you and other Australasians and Izmir. I didn´t want to raise expectations but if your source says there is a likelyhood then there is reason to be just a little optimistic.

Yeah I can fully sympathise with you Kay, a one stop is definately preferable isn´t it. Did a Copenhagen - Amsterdam - Singapore - Sydney in one stretch and even on a quality carrier like Singapore I was not feeling too great (extremely grumpy ) by the time I arrived downunder. I can´t imagine going through the hassle of changing terminals and going through all that hassle after a 27 hour hop!!
