Green face Jamie Oliver:Eat to Save Your Life

Did anyone see Jamie Oliver's programme Eat To Save Your Life.

Basically the usual advice, eat more fruit and veg, exercise, cut down sugar, salt, saturated fats etc.

We've seen many tv shows like this before but Jamie decided to try some shock tactics to get the message across.
He did intensive medicals on a few volunteers to see what they were doing to themselves by over eating and how to extend your life expectancy by a change of diet.

But the show ended with a real life corpse of a 25 stone man being cut open and his insides pulled out of a mass of solid fat

I'm not squeamish but this was the grossest thing I've seen on tv, probably ever.

I may never eat another packet of crisps again.

Do you think he went to far?

Ah it sounds disgusting. I don't have channel 4 here, so couldn't see it (although after reading your post - I'm glad I didn't!)

I saw one episode of The Big Food Fight season when I was in England - 'Hugh's Chicken Run'

I can safely say I will not be eating any chicken that isn't free-range after seeing that!

I watched it ..... jesus, its unbeilivable what crap some people eat!!

virtually every one of the 12 volenteers lived on junk food & ready meals .. & virtually no fruit or veg

I thought the program was fantastic (especially the bit where they had the 2 frozen bodys, cut in half to see where the fat etc was)

We've been talking about it all morning at work & i think it shocked everyone .. were all on health & fitness kicks since the new year (& all doing very well ...im down 7kg since 1 jan ) & i think since watching that we have all decided that we will make much more of an effort to stick to it (usually by the end of feb, we've all given up & the fad of going to the gym at lunch times has well and truley warn off)

The programme didnt really show anything that i didnt already know, but it is a real eye opener actually seeing inside a body & what damage we cause to ourselves.

it was interesting to see that the Obese & Morbidly obese guys were both fitter (stronger heart & lungs) than the guy who was only slightly over weight (how was he over weight?? i thought he looked very slim! )

I watched the program too one of the main points made was what CRAP gets put into processed food sausage rolls, bolognese sauce etc. fatty meats lots of sugar and salt. Basically convenience shopping has made the Uk obese.

The done a fitness test with a morbidly obese man, an athletic obese man and a 23 year old bloke. Both the obese men were average fitness for their age the 23 year old was below and his body had more fat in it that the middle obese bloke.

If you want further proof look at Turkish people they make their own food and a packet of crisps or chocolate bar is major treat from the shops if they can afford or warrant spending that sort of money.

Question - if everytime you felt hungry you actually had to go and prepare something as opposed to grab a biscuit or bag of crisps the hunger would soon go.

I make no secret im currently on reductil tablets which i brought last time I was over. Its amazing I still eat normally but the urge to snack or eat for the sake of it has gone.

I don't like scales so not sure how much I have lost but trousers are looser already.

Sad I know i need pills to do that but I guess thats what living with convenience food does.

I saw that,
all our family watched that.

My heart went out the the lovely woman who was classed morbiddly obese.

OH and those autopsies,
talk about sickly, i was ready to run for the loo!!
He doctor who performed those autopsies has his own show
and does autopsies alot.
Extremely interesting show but
you do have to have a strong stomach to watch!

Jamie's show was hard hitting and informative.
It made me think abot my eating style definately.

LOL ... not likely chris ... but i may not be such a chubbette as i am now

My problem isnt food, i never eat convenience foods & may have a take away once a mth ... I love cooking & do so every day .. always a healthy meal. .. always have my 5 portions of fruit & veg.

My problem is exercise, for me to loose anything i have to basically take up residence in the gym ... ive been going twice a day (lunch times & afterwork) since new year, as well as aqua aerobics on a weds & fri night ... luckily i am enjoying & it hasnt begun to wear thin yet ...

if anyone else is trying to loose any weight / follow a healthy diet, i found a really useful website (food focus) its basically an online diary, where you can log what you eat, & what exercise you do ..& it works out how many calaoires/fat/ carbs/ sugers etc you are consuming & also how many you are burnng. .. also its free!
