Default Bozdag

Took an impromptu trip the other day and went to Bozdag.

From kusadasi you drive to selcuk and follow the old road to Torbali, then head towards Odemis. It's a lovely scenic drive ; on your left you run parallel to the Aydindag mountains which were snowed topped too.

Once in Odemis there are plenty of signs for Bozdag.
Now this was the interesting part. The temperature was 15 degrees in odemis, but as we started to climb the mountain I noticed the temperature dropping half a degree every minute! Until it finally reached 0.5 and was snowing.

At the 'top' you can head left to the Golcuk lake (sign posted at the army base) where there's a hotel and small village. It's very picturesque, set against the snow topped Bozdag mountain. We did visit the lake and it was completely frozen over.

The village of Bozdag is very pretty too. There is a sign to the kayak centre where you can hire skiis and other equipment. There's also a hotel at the skii centre.
The snow wasn't deep enough for skiing , but it would have been fine for sleighing.

The roads were well gritted, not iced over, but for anyone trying to get to the skii centre I would recommend investing in some new tires, if the treads going.
The whole trip took 2 hours, so it's fairly close. Type Bozdag into your browser and you'll probably get the main hotel and skii centre. There's a telephone number to be able to check the quality of the runs. I should mention that this is not a large, well equipped skii resort ; this is a small skii centre suitable for beginners and intermediates or people looking to have a bit of fun in the snow.

I'm hoping to go to Uludag too , as I'm getting completely obsessed with snow at the moment.

Sounds great Charlotte and lovely pics Ashkin went to Golcuk on a school trip last year but it was summer time so there wasn't any snow.

Mavi & I are off to Uludag next weekend with our families. I'm looking forward to a week away in a hotel, chilling out and having fun in the snow. We'll be seeing Debby there too.

Hi Ally,
Michelle told me about your Uludag trip, I hope you have a lot of fun, it sounds like a wonderful place.
As far as I'm aware Uludag is much more of a ski resort and has a fair amount of snow much of the year. I can't wait to go as I've never been to a mountain ski resort, and it's something Ive longed to do. Bozdag was definitely worth the trip, but Uludag would be livelier.
Please take loads of photos in case we don't get there!
Have a great time ladies,
Charlotte

Hopefully you can coax Ferhan to bring you and the girls; after all, it's school holidays....tell him the girls will get bored

The ski season in Uludag ends around the 2nd week of March, there's no snow there during the summer, but hubby has taken the boys up their camping and they said it was still freezing at night.

Thanks Megan

Ally,
Well, I've mentioned it to Ferhan and I've been looking on the net but I've got two concerns.
The first is the price of accomodation..it's quite expensive for the school holidays (isn't it always?) and I think we could go another weekend and save half the money it'd cost us for those dates. Also, second concern is how busy it will be. We would have to pre book, and even then the whole place is going to be swarming with families and it will be packed on the slopes..making it harder and longer to get on, find food, etc etc..you know what it's like, so we may wait.

Or we may just wait for you to get up there and let us know how it is!

I've also been looking at other ski destinations in Turkey. There are some amazing places, and if I could fly i would take up an offer we had to go skiing with friends near Erzurum. But even saklikent looks great..much higher than uludag and bozdag from what I've read.

If you google skiing Turkey it throws up so much stuff! You'd never guess there's so many places in Turkey!

Anyway, have a sneaky suspicion we may just end up going to bozdag as it's close and pretty and seemed fairly quiet.
