Default Tire, Izmir

One of the largest towns in the area, Tire is 82km southeast of Izmir and lies at the foot of the Aydin Mountains. Its long cultural heritage includes periods under the Hittites, Frygians, Lydians, Persians, Romans and Byzantines, and developed its strong links with the economy during the Ottoman period. The town has an attractive old quarter with many impressive examples of Islamic architecture, and a lively Tuesday market influenced by the gypsy population in the surrounding villages.

My turkish neighbours brother lives here and when he went to visit him he brought me back a tub of creem cheese that is special to tire. It was absolutely gorgeous! So if you ever get to tire be sure to try it .

Theres a fabulous restaurant right at the lookout on the top of the hill (can see Mt Bozdag from there also). Im sorry I can't remember the name but it really was superb, as was the view - despite the haze from the wood fires.

Yesterday we went to Aydin on the way back we saw a sign for Tire.
We did`nt know it was a mountain road it takes you over the mountains to Tire about 50km.It was a real adventure it was beautiful just kept going going going up up up around around around ....... can you go any higher..... yes you can......looking down on Tire it was like looking out of an airplane window.
No camera
Most of the route saying no overtaking Ha! Ha! as if you would have the nerve.
The view was unbelievable but I was glad to get down dont do heights.
When we got to Tira had a lovely meal but did`nt have time to look around so will go back and have a good look around but will come in from the Selcuk way.
Our friends loved it thanks for the info as we would never had thought about going to Tire and would have missed the lovely mountain road.
