Default Big pay rise for ex-pats in Turkey.

The Turkish government's apparent nose-dive (especially today) has given us, if our income is from UK, in effect something like a 12% pay rise in the last couple of weeks. Yippeee!! We're getting something back at last.

You're celebrating a slump in Turkey's economy?

Sorry, I don't get it.

Ben, I hope things work out better but in the long run, as they say, "Don't put all your eggs in one basket". Anyway if all your money is in Turkey and you spend it here, it shouldn't make any difference unless you buy a lot of foreign produce... should it?

Done what again? Maybe you should have a look at the "Warning" thread my friend, to get the whole picture and learn something, before sticking your foot in your mouth again.

Exclamation

Overall I am winning but maybe by not as much as I was !
I am going to Turkey for the rest of my life and so will not panic as much as when the rate went to 3YTL to the pound.
The rise in exchange rates basically wipes a year off intrest gains on accounts in Turkey.
On the upside I dumped our investments in the Turkish stock exchange a few months ago.
Probably there will be a short term reverse in interst rates at the bank which may beniefit me.
The nock on effect will be that prices go up in Turkey which will hit the Turkish people much harder than me which is much more worrying to us !
I espect the Turkish goverment to pass new laws to stop the current legal problems though so anyone thinking of changing money should probably take advantage of this short term blip !
