Hi we are thinking of moving over to kusadasi later this year but we have a few worries, wonder if any of you can help, how much is it for health insurance, what do we need to do regarding a solicitor for buying a house? is it easy to set up direct debit's for paying all house-hold bills? do we make will's in england and turkey? are the bank interest rates still about 13% net. What does every-one do day in day out all year? We are going to Ladies beach on the 20th April to look at a few places, so any help before we go will be helpful. Thanks Deb and Bob..

Hi Deb and Bob
We live in Ladies Beach, we have been here a year now and love it, havent botherd with health insurance (someone else will answer that one) direct debits are easy, not sure if its two or three you need so you dont have to pay bank charges id say yes to both English and Turkish wills must admit to not using a solicitor, but would advise you to, you will find the details on this forum for the best one, think intrest rates are 15% net, but they are trying to get it down to 10%. What do we do all day? anything and everything, there are lots of expats here and there is always something going on we have a busier social life here, than we ever had in England. |

Been here 4 years We hav`nt bothered with health insurance pay as we need. We did`nt have a solicitor had no problems but most people would not advice this. Open a bank account here need tax number and then you can pay electric,telephone/internet,digturk & site fees by directed debit or on line. Water no have to go and pay not sure if this will change . Might be different rules for different sites ? Wills ? Interest rates still very good. Ask lots of questions about site you are buying on. Lots of info on here so read everything you can. Old or new property ,where you want to live ,winter/summer living, site fees etc., As for what do we do day in day out never enough hours in the day to do everything. Gardening, shopping ,DIY ,sit seeing, walk dog ,eating ,drinking ,chatting ,reading etc., all the things you did`nt have time for in the UK an more. After holidaying here for over 12 years then moving here still finding lots and lots to do. We live on Ladies Beach so might see you about Good luck get reading. ![]() |

Deb and Bob,
Welcome to the forum. Direct debits can be arranged via most banks. You need a tax number and an adress plus ID to open an account..Mella has given the link to the thread which explains in detail. You can pay into a private health care plan or retirement plan. We pay for our health care as and when; there are lots of great private health facilities in kusadasi and it's not as expensive as you may think. Definitely look into hiring a solicitor. A solicitor will check land registry /tapu and any debts which may be attached to the home. Use this forums search facilities, someone who comes recommended will be listed. Things you may want to consider when purchasing property: Does the Tapu (deeds) currently exist for the property? If situated on a complex, what will my monthly charges be and what does it include? How are these fees calculated? If on a site, how do I pay my water and electric? Do I have my own meters or do I pay site management? Check that the access to the property is public and does not go through private land. Maybe consider where the nearest bus route/ shop/pharmacy is? Does the house have any signs of rising damp or any signs of roof /roof terrace leaks? The best way to learn about the property is to ask other neighbours on the site/in the area...they will most probably give you the best indication of any problems or things to consider. Good luck with everything, it's really not as bad as it sounds ! Charlotte p.s. Day to day I pretty much do what I'd do in the U.K ; shopping , cleaning, taking the children out and meeting friends for coffee. Except for the summer where I tend to eat out more, go to the beach/swim daily and sometimes lay in the sun. I'm sure you'll have great fun house hunting, just stay positive, think about why you're doing this and remember it's not paradise, it's Turkey! *some people say close enough * |
