Default Craving something?

Craving something?

The impulse to snack is all in the mind, so don’t go blaming your biology

We’ve all been there. When you’re consumed by a burning desire for chocolate, spicy tortilla chips or a humble bacon sarnie, no other snack will do - and you need it fast.
The guilt that follows is often lessened by the common belief that cravings are the result of the body’s biological needs, that a vitamin or mineral in the food we yearn for – magnesium in chocolate or sodium in crisps – is missing from our diet and needs replacing. The bad news is that scientists have yet to prove this is true.
“There is no evidence that food cravings are linked to nutritional deficiencies,” says Professor Peter Rogers of Bristol University. “What is more likely is that the foods we crave are those we usually attempt to resist because they induce guilty feelings when we eat them. If we try to resist something, though, the urge for it doesn’t go away, it actually becomes amplified.”
That food cravings are emotionally or psychologically driven was proved in a recent study published in the journal Appetite. Researchers showed that women who tried to suppress thoughts about their favourite fattening food ended up eating 50% more of it than those who talked about their cravings.

LOL Rhona, that sounds like something i'd do!

If I want something, I'll have it. I won't deprive myself of it, otherwise I can't stop thinking about it. (a bit like smoking, if I know I'm allowed to have a cigarette when I want one, i'm fine but if I've quit and KNOW I'm not ''allowed'' one, it just makes me want it even more)

Everything in moderation. Although try telling me that when I have a packet of jaffa cakes..I can't seem to eat one, I always scoff the entire packet. They should come with a warning on the box.

Just emptied a packet of Maltesers Babypud! Know the feeling.

On a serious note I was reading something about obesity yesterday in one of the rags. Apparently if you were overweight when you were young it is virtually impossible to ever loose it. Something to do with the fat cells signalling the brains for food. Even if you´ve lost it (weight that is ) the cells will continue to send out signals.

Depressing news.
