We recently went to pay our council tax on our property at the davutlar council offices.
Our emlak gave the wife and myself a card each to take with us. We paid 3 months . Now we paid twice once for the wife and one for me . Should we have paid just once as it is just the one property we own or should we have paid twice as we did, once each for each name on the card? Nobody seems to know for sure. |

You should have paid Once.
I take it you have both names on the Tapu, hence the reason you have been presented with two bills. Merv! ![]() |

Hi,
I spent 3 hours last week in Davutlar council with the same problem. New house purchased July 2004. Went with Tapu and was charged from last July and for this years and was told we had to pay for each owner on Tapu. This worked out at 44ytl each. Hmmm.....i did query this and even the local Turkish people in their at the time said this was correct. I have the green copies of the receipts, but of course its all gobblegook to us! I even showed my agent and he said it was correct, but how do you know? Surely the people who work in the Office wouldnt take more if you only need to pay once would they? I only went in armed with my Tapu and we both had to fill in a white form each. This was done by an office up the road from the Council, as we dont speak a word of the lingo. I take it we go there again before the end of May next year for the next installment. I have been told that you are expected to know this, therefore no council tax bill is sent. Is this correct? Any help greatly received... A confused Lorraine |

Hi again,
Forgot to mention that we havent been given any cards whatsoever! Should we have them, or do these get sent to your villa address (LOL). I wish it were more simple!!! It really is confusing... i wont even go into what happened with my Water bill paying in the same office. Was drained of another 90 ytl and i was already in credit! God knows, i think i have paid years in advance...hehehe....they said that the meter had'nt been put in my name so they had to change it........ Cheers Lol |

I would be interested to hear their solution as this is becoming more and more frequent. I have paid 6 monthly before, as the rating is done bi-annually. |

Especially when you are absent from the property for long periods - there have been many scare stories of neighbours tapping into a supply and you ending paying accordingly with little recourse. Merv! ![]() |

Hi Merlin,
I had already paid the agent for the water meter to be fitted. It was fitted last July when my parents were there. Last September i took my first bill to the council and paid it, and also paid more in advance to avoid a further fine for late payment. They didnt query it then, so i dont understand why the meter wasnt in my name in the first place ( as the agent arranged the fitting). Perhaps i should have gave him the further bill as it seems a lapse on his part I did have the Tapu at the time of fitting in my name. Cheers for the help, it is all getting a bit clearer now. OOps again!!
Forgot to mention that i do keep an extra eye on the meter readings and note them when i stay. I also switch off my electric inside and out, and also lock up and turn off the water (have experienced 3 floods already when the house was being finished, due to incompetent cleaners!!) Our electric is paid via the site manager at the moment until the whole complex is complete. I went to Kusadasi Council to find that out.I took my meter number and reading, and they told me this info. I hope there is no further charge later for this also, when we will start receiving our own bills!! We shall see... Cheers Lorraine |

Lorraine, unless the Agent pulled a few strokes they would have had to have had the bill in your name to have the meter fitted.
Seems to me you are paying twice one way or the other. To transfer electric and water into your own name it will (should) cost you no more than 50 pounds each. If there is a history of bad payments at the address, then further deposits may be required. Merv! ![]() |
