The other day we drove down to Inciralti for lunch and decided to go and check out this museum, opposite the Crowne Plaza Hotel. It's hard to miss as it's literally a museum IN a warship with a big black submarine anchored next to it.
You get a guided tour around the ship from one of the sailors. He explains about the different rooms, the weapons and missiles, what they were doing on board and lots of other things. It was really interesting looking in all the rooms and seeing the difference between the commanders and the sailors' quaters. After you've been round the ship, you get a guided tour of the submarine...not recommended if you have claustrophobia. The TCG EGE Warship joined the military in 1994, and was acting for 11 years. His mission ended in 2005 and he was turned into a museum. TCG Pirireis submarine joined to the army in 1980 and was actively used for 24 years, it stopped being used in 2004. Entrance Price: 3 lira Opening Times: Monday and Tuesday: Closed Wednesday: 09:00-12:00 / 13:30 - 16:30 Thursday: 09:00-12:00 / 13:30 - 16:30 Friday: 09:00-12:00 / 13:30 - 16:30 Saturday: 09:00-12:00 / 13:30 - 16:30 Sunday: 09:00-12:00 / 13:30 - 16:30 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

That looks really interesting ... i did a similar tour of a Us Warship in Philadelphia a few years ago, it was a very eerie experience, I didnt like the underwater / sub sections .. gives me the shivers even thinking about it ...
Was the tour in Turkish & English Mella? |

Claire, I'm not 100% sure. We got there at 16.30 just as it had closed and they kindly let us in so it was a quick tour. The sailor asked if it was OK to do it in Turkish and have Umit translate for me, so we did that but I think they do speak English.
![]() Christine, you'd have to get the bus from Kusadasi to Izmir, then get a dolmus/free bus shuttle to Konak. There's a big department store called YKM, near that there's a small bus station, you can get a bus to Inciralti from there. It would be quite a long journey by public transport, and would be much easier by car. |

Take the "Inciralti" bus from the main Konak bus station. This takes you right past the jetty where the old warship and an even older submarine are moored in the fishing harbour. You can learn a lot about the Turkish navy if you ask the right questions! but if that doesn't interest you, continue on the bus or walk to the Crown Plaza Shopping Centre nearby. In the surrounding precincts there are parks, beaches, the fishing boats and, of course, plenty of restaurants.
