i think this is a great idea sue and i really think everyone should put their thoughts through too! we are the consumers in Kusadasi and if we dont speak our minds about the issue at hand nothing is going to be changed and the prices are gunna rise and rise! if the prices carry on rising people will stop using bar street xx

I Hvant been to Kus yet this year, so its hard for me to comment.
but from what i have heard from many friends who have visted in 2005, it isnt just bar street that have risen their prices, all of the bars & restuarants have jumped up in price significantly. we all expect the prices to raise from year to year, but when it gets to the point where we are paying more for a beer / meal than we are at home, it has to stop. the tourists will not put up with this & will holiday else where. |

Good idea, Sue. Although I haven't been to Kusadasi this year, I voted that it's gotten expensive as that's what I keep hearing off of everybody.
I'm not sure that this will make any difference whatsoever, though. Let's chain ourselves up to the bar street lamposts and march around chanting and waving banners in protest. |

Nope, the prices are not increased actually. But, Turkish Lira/Exchange rates are not increased more than inflation.
let me explain; 3 years ago -> 1 beer -> 4 YTL -> Euro = 1,60 YTL now -> 1 beer -> 5 YTL -> Euro = 1,75 YTL Ohh and, many bar street owners are not happy with low prices coz they can not earn enough money.

Which ever way you work it out that makes it over 2.00 pounds for a bottle of efes which in any exchange rate is expensive. If the bars dropped their prices they would get more people through the door.

i know, 5 YTL is okey for us becuase our income increased nearly same (3YTL / a beer goes 5YTL / a beer; but our income goes 300YTL / a month to 480YTL / a month [hey, this is just an example])
But exchange rates stayed nearly same (3 years ago -> 1€ = 1,60 YTL NOW -> 1€ = 1,75 YTL) This is becuase of economic program of Turkey. Government and IMF would like to keep exchange rates in low level becuase we would like to decrease high inflation. And one more note; Exchange rates are determining by MARKET, not by government. So that this is a global economic issue. As a Turkish, i think the prices are OK (i explained above).

My mother threw a hissy fit and a tantrum or two this June. Especially over restaurant prices.
We found self-catering (although more expensive initially) actually paid off in the end. We saved a lot, which is pretty surprising considering that Turkey has always been very affordable place to dine. You can actually eat cheaper turkish food here now (albeit not as nice). We were pretty shocked at how expensive things had become. |
