Hi Tanith

No, foreigners have not been stopped from buying property in Turkey; however there will be a few changes to the law this year.

Tanith, here is the latest from Zaman ..

Quote:
Real estate sales to foreigners were stopped yesterday morning in land offices. Following the suit filed by the Republican People's Party (CHP), on 14 March 2005 the Constitutional Court had unanimously decided on the abolition of the article that permitted foreigners purchasing real estate under certain conditions. The court decided that the abolition decree would come into effect within three months after its publication in the Official Gazette,

The directorate instructed the branches not to refuse foreigners who wish to apply to purchase real estate but to suspend the transactions. The circulars indicated that a new legal arrangement had to be made to close the legal loophole on that subject and that the applications would be evaluated after the new legal arrangement came into effect
.

well according to this, all transactions have currently been frozen ... but is under review!

so i dont think it is anything to panic about!!

My mum is selling her place and she told me that the newspaper stated that it will not stop but there will be changes. Not to sure what the exact change is but from what i understood when you buy land or property it has to be a certain lenght if you know what i mean. When i say lenght i mean the gigness of the property amd the reason for this is aparently lots of foriegn ppl are buying to many propertys. But until its in black and blue its the same.My friend has bought a place in bodrum today hope it helps

According to the way it reads the government have placed a ban on all foreigners buying property in Turkey. Although it shouldn't affect us directly we would still like clarification on this issue.

I saw this thread and contacted my friend who has an agency in Kusadasi on what her take on all this is..

She told me that basically three months ago they said they were changing the law, the idea being it was to make the purchase of property for foreigners easier, they want to cut out this military check which now can take up to 6 months because their so busy.

Three months has gone and the minister who is suppose to be tiding up the ends is on holiday, and will not be issuing the new rules until the middle of next month so nobody can submitted any applications, it can only happen here, so anyone who wishes to buy now will have to wait,

I am sure it will all be sorted out very soon, and when it does, things will be much more stream-lined.

I hope that helps.
