So you know far bettrer than people who actually work in the system then Tony. I said I don't as I know there is more to solving the problems of law and order than gut reaction. I did a short stint when lecturing, in prison education and I can tell you simple solutions don't work. It is also speculation as to why Venables has been recalled. If he is guilty of what the speculation is then it is quite right that he has not been rehabiliatated and should be incarcerated for a good length of time. Is that unreasonable? |

You know this categorically Tony. You may be right but I don't think you can make that judgment based on the evidence you have. If anyone can be rehabilitated surely a 10 year old child must be a candidate. I can understand the public wanting revenge and I actually agree that the public should expect to see some revenge in the sentencing. However there are models for a judicial system based on revenge only. Go to any Sicilian grave yard and look at the ages of the people who died.

By the time I was 7 years old, I knew that it was right or wrong to kill
another person or animal. Please don't give me any more of this bullshit. |

The problem with believing stories in the press is that they are quite often out of context.
Here is the child commisioners statements 13 March 2010 Statement from Maggie Atkinson, the Children's Commissioner for England, in response to The Times article on 13 March 2010: Maggie Atkinson, the Children's Commissioner for England, said: "I wish to be clear and to put into context my views on such terrible atrocities. Some children and young people do commit terrible crimes and are a danger to themselves and to others. It is right therefore that these children are contained in secure settings as in the case of James Bulger's killers and more recently the horrific case in Edlington. I empathise with the pain and anguish felt by all the families of the victims involved. Children who carry out such atrocities and other serious offences need to understand the severity of their actions. They should undertake intense programmes appropriate to their age in secure facilities where they are helped to make positive and lasting changes to their behaviour. The age of criminal responsibility in England is one the lowest in Europe. The statistics show that we are in danger of criminalising too many children and young people by locking them up for committing far less serious crimes." ENDS In some ways I agree that we should not be criminalising all children because of isolated pure evil, our childen already get a bad and mostly unfair press, there has to be some balance. |

Anthony, Tony, do you honestly believe that you have more ability and are better qualified than the present incumbent. I am always amazed at how people who know nothing about a particular job can act as if they know more than those who have experience and knowledge of the job. This goes across all the spectra of jobs. Football suppoerters for some reason all believe they know more about football then the manager, every parent knows how to teach better than the reacher etc. I can accept you disagreeing with her findings but then you seem to act as if you are somehow more expert. I don't actually agree with what was reported as having said. Obviously the world would be a better place if the world came and listened to you, after all you have common sense.
