Hi Hannah,
its nothing to do with tradition. There are really strict working laws in Turkey. A foreign national cannot LEGALLY do a job that a local person could do. there is a list of jobs that foreigners cannot do, these include bar & restaurant work. To work legally in Turkey you have to obtain a work Visa which must be applied for by your employer. You do see some foreign nationals working illegally in Turkey .. it is a risk you can take, but if you are caught, you risk being fined and banned from Turkey for up to 5 years |

if you are offered a job, you have to make sure that the employer gets you a work visa .. you cannot apply for it yourself! they must do it! without a visa it will be illegal what would the job be? .. if it is working in one of the bars or restaurants the employer would probably expect you to work illegally (as a foreign national cannot do these jobs legally) also ... a standard visitors visa is only valid for 3 mths, so you would have to leave the country after that time to re-new your visa. |

Yeah people do that. They just goto Samos, then come back and get another 3 month visa. So it's a possibility for you to do that in the middle of your 6 month stay.
A friend of mine worked illegally in Kus and she said it doesn't cause too many problems and sometimes 'they' turn a blind eye to it. But I still wouldn't do it, I don't think i'd risk getting deported and banned from Turkey for 5 whole years! |

thanks for that....
so what is the plan then I get of at Izmir airport get my visa there for 3 months, get a job and then in 3 months time go to samos renew visa for 3 months and then go home at the end.....just like that or not I am very sorry for being a pain in the arse. He is a friend of mine where i hopefully would be working. where does the deported bit come in to it, what do i need for that not to happen. Sorry H xx |

yes basically just as you have said .. pay your £10 at Izmir for the 3 mth then, then before the 3mths is up you will need to go to Samos to get a new 3 mth visa. The being deported bit ... if you get caught working illegally, the authorities can fine you & deport you (& stamp your passport stating that you cannot enter Turkey again for 5 years) As Mella said, people do work out there Illegally, but the authorites are getting tighter on this every year, i know of people who were caught in the Altinkum area this summer & they were deported! |
