Easy Jet Sets Fierce Competition in Flights By Mustafa Gun, Istanbul Published: Wednesday, January 04, 2006 zaman.com Easy Jet, one of the world’s biggest low cost carrier companies, is preparing itself to enter the Turkish market. The British company conducting all tickets sales via the Internet will begin selling flights to Turkey in the upcoming months. Reportedly, Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport controlled by the Defense Industry Undersecretary will be used as a destination for these flights. Easy Jet, with tickets starting from as low as 19 euro, flights from London to Athens sell for 50-55 euros, while London-Paris flights range from 16 or 42 euro. Jet Easy is well known in the sector for investing great deal of money for its flights at airports and terminating its rivals in the market. Experts in Turkey emphasize the threat this airline presents to Turkish Air Lines and private airline companies. The Airport Authority HEAS declared no definite agreement has been issued yet. According to the information released, an agreement has been reached on five daily flights in April, increasing to 15 as of July. The flights are expected to begin running as planned provided the problems and some details in the enterprise costs are solved. HEAS officials said negotiations with Easy Jet were positive and the officials persuaded the company to being conducting flights. Reporting they will gather once more following the Sacrifice Feast between January 10 and 14, the officials disclosed: “Easy Jet flies to 29 destinations in Europe. The flight network and substructure are strong. We requested that add flights to Turkish Airports as well and they give us the green light. The situation will be finalized within 10 days.” Airport officials developed several projects to increase profits for Istanbul’s second international airport, and declared they also conducted negotiations with the companies such as Ryan Air and charter firms from India under this frame. The most fundamental feature of Easy Jet is that it urges charter firms in the centers that it operates to withdraw from the market within a short time. When the company began operating flights to the French city of Lyon last year, nearly nine charter companies operating in this market were forced out of business. Easy Jet, one of the world’s highest performing airline companies conducting up to15 flights per day to some destinations, hopes to double the number of flights in the near future. The British company plans to begin with five flights per day to the Turkish market and hope to increase this figure to 50 in 2007. |

According to the following article (Turkish only) Easyjet is trying to set up a hub in Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport (SAW) Easyjet will start with 5 flights a day in April and then increase it to 15 flights a day by July and 50 flights a day by 2007
I´m guessing there will be direct links to their bases in Bristol, Liverpool, Newcastle, Dortmund, Berlin, Geneva. It is a surprise move for EasyJEt (bar Switzerland) they said would not go outside the EU. Also can a non Turkish company set up a major operation there ? The reverse is certainly not possible. |

That would be brilliant if it did get off the ground (sorry for the pun)
.İve just booked flights from Stansted to Dublin with Ryanair for 1pence each way plus tax, so its only costing us 130stg for the 5 of us. Can`t complain! ![]() |

I´ve taken the link just to be on the safe side though. So this means that we have to transfer to a different aiport in Istanbul for onward flights with Onur I guess. |
