Firstly, thanks to you all for making this such an interesting and informative site!
My first trip to Turkey is three days away (fly out late on 15 Oct '06). I'm staying at the Green Beach resort, Gundogan, what can anyone tell me, good, bad or indifferent. I'd be grateful for any top tips especially local courtesies, etc. Thanks. |

Hi Brettster,
Welcome to the forum, nice to see you here. ![]() There are a few reviews of this hotel here: *Click* Gundogan is a quiet and lovely beachtown, located about 10 miles Northwest of downtown Bodrum. It's one of the few quiet and peaceful bays in the Bodrum peninsula and the beach is said to be loooovely, and one of the longest in the area. Perfect for sailing, surfing and parasailing. Wander into the village and you will find traditional restaurants where you can enjoy favourites such as lentil soup, lamacun, pide , durum and of course kebab. There is a post office with ATM machine, and a reasonable selection of shops. Nature lovers may appreciate the chance to join a guided trekking group to explore the surrounding countryside. A visit by boat to the nearby 'Apostol' Island with its ruined, but romantic, Byzantine church is always a delight. I haven't visited Gundogan but we did goto Yalikavak, which is situated next to it, and it was verrry beautiful and peaceful. Well, the whole Bodrum peninsula is very picturesque. ![]() Bodrum and Gumbet are pretty easy to reach via Dolmus. So you can go there if you want more hussle and bussle. The shopping in Bodrum is great, especially the market held in the dolmus station. You can find more info on The Bodrum Peninsula on our sister site, MaxiTurkey. *Click* local courtesies? Hmm. Well you will be arriving in Turkey towards the end of Ramadan, and although this won't be a problem at all (especially not in the hotel) but as most Turks will be fasting from sunrise to sunset during Ramadan, if you do go out, it would be considered very impolite to eat and drink in public during the day. However, this does not mean, certainly in and around holiday resorts, that restaurants and bars will be closed during the day - staff will still be happy to serve you, although they might well be fasting themselves. That's about it really, the Turkish people are the best, and will make your holiday very special. I hope you have a great time. ![]() |
