Having heard about the market in Selcuk on a different thread - I am really keen to go when we are over next (70 more sleeps ). What time of day is best to go? Does the market take over most of the town, or where is it in relation to the garaj? Where are the eateries that have been mentioned in posts on the forums - can't remember the names - but love 'proper' Turkish food. Thanks
Hi Susan, The market is in a large area behind the Otogar, you won't be able to miss it with the many stalls and bright colours. We went very early on a Saturday morning in the middle of June and we were practically the only tourists there. Here are a few pictures...
Suzan. To avoid the crowds in the summer I would recommend going early morning. From around 10.30 onwards it gets very busy with tourists. The locals tend to go mid-afternoon. I usually go around 9am, or occasionally with my Turkish neighbour mid-afternoon. There are a fair number of places to eat. I wouldn't recommend one over another. They're all pretty good. And you will find them much cheaper than Kusadasi.
Thanks all for your replies. Photos are great as always Mella. Will definitely try to get along for first thing in the morning. Everyone has said it is cheaper than Kusadasi - what can I expect to pay for stuff - 20% less than Kus?? I do like a good haggle - gives me a chance to practice my limited Turkish!!
Susan for eating I can recommend Seçkin Ciğerci. You can read my review here. There´s more than the market. Make sure have a good wonder around. There are some nice bars by the fountain by the aquaduct. Don´t forget to have a look at the stork´s!! And the hamam is also not too bad.
Went to selcuk market today, hadnt been for about 6 months, and its just as nice as ever and never heard one fake accent and no hassle, got lots of good bargains to, not bothering going elsewhere from now on Mavis
Hi Mavis...Maybe we crossed paths without realising! Yes I do love our market here. Hassle-free and a real pleasure. (Anyone would think I was being paid by the stallholders to promote it) Had our usual et doner at the place next to the mosque...another one of Chris's (and my) favourites.
Hi LKA, We had a kebab also in the little cafe next to the mosque, must have been about 2pm, and very nice it was to with homemade ayran Mavis.
Yes! Heph, Thats were i had my kebab yesterday, and it was extra extra tasty might just go for another next week Mavis

Mella, me and a couple of our friends went to this little restaurant in Selcuk but we cant remember the name! It was near a fountain?! I really recommend the restaurants in Selcuk they serve great food for 1/3 of the price as Kusadasi.
